On Sunday, February 28, 2021, while the COVID-19 pandemic is affecting the job-hunting activities of new graduates in 2022, 514 students from across Japan attended the Food and Agriculture Job Hunting Summit held at the Tokyo International Forum, where 72 companies and groups from the agriculture and food industry exhibited booths. We will report on the situation on the day of the event, as well as the comments of participating students and companies.

The Food and Agriculture Job Hunting Summit, a joint company information session for new graduates in 2022 hosted by the Primary Industry Network, was held with measures in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

This year marked the sixth time the event has been held, and featured booths from participating companies, as well as lectures by special guests Shinzo Abe, former Prime Minister and member of the House of Representatives, and Yoshihiro Asakawa, an agricultural journalist. New graduates from all over the country gathered at the event, making it the largest food and agriculture job-hunting summit ever.
A similar joint company information session for new graduates in 2023 is also planned to be held in February 2022.

    • [Voices of participating students (excerpts)]
  • ■It was meaningful because I was able to learn about companies that I would not have been able to find out about through job hunting sites.
  • ■I learned a lot by being able to talk to people from companies that I would not have been able to find if I had done my own research.
  • ■I was able to deepen my understanding of the agricultural industry and learn more about the specifics of the work involved. I was also glad that I was able to find a company that interested me.
  • ■I was able to learn more about the industry I was interested in, and it gave me a lot to think about when it comes to finding a job. I was able to ask questions easily, and it really piqued my interest, so I'm glad I was able to participate.
    • [Voices from participating companies (excerpts)]
  • ■Thank you for this valuable opportunity. I was very grateful to have the opportunity to speak directly with students despite the various restrictions.
  • ■The event was well organized and held in a very good environment. It was my first time to participate in a job fair where the target audience was narrowed down to a certain extent, but it was a good experience.
